First Responder Emergency Care
Frec 3 course requires approx. 10 hours pre course study, via workbooks and online portal. Please allow three weeks from booking your place to attending the course to ensure enough time for this pre work.
You will need to purchase the following book available from Qualsafe
Some knowledge of basic anatomy and pathophysiology of the body, especially the respiratory system, cardiovascular system and central nervous is preferred but not essential.
The course requires a large amount of practical and physical assessments and activities.

What You'll Learn
This five-day course provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to assess, manage, and treat patients in a range of trauma and medical emergencies.
It’s suitable for individuals operating in security, event medical services, emergency response roles, and those progressing toward ambulance or clinical careers. Delivered by experienced medical trainers, the course follows the Qualsafe framework and meets the standards set out by the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care. Upon successful completion, learners are equipped to provide effective immediate care in line with current clinical guidelines and legal responsibilities.
- Primary & Secondary Patient Assessment
Learn how to approach an emergency scene safely and systematically. This includes evaluating potential hazards, checking casualty responsiveness and conducting thorough primary and secondary assessments. - Trauma Management
Gain the skills to manage life-threatening injuries, including severe bleeding, broken bones, spinal trauma, and burns. Training covers both the immediate care needed on-site and stabilisation techniques. - Basic & Advanced Airway Management
Understand how to maintain and secure a patient’s airway using a range of tools. This includes the use of oxygen delivery systems, manual suction units, and adjuncts such as oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways to ensure adequate breathing support. - Medical Emergencies
Develop the ability to recognise signs and symptoms of critical medical conditions such as cardiac arrest, stroke, seizure, asthma, and anaphylactic shock. - CPR & Defibrillation
Master high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), including effective chest compressions and rescue breaths. Learn how to confidently operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and understand the protocols for its use during cardiac arrest situations. - Catastrophic Haemorrhage Control
Learn to identify and respond to major bleeding incidents using advanced haemorrhage control techniques. - Use of Emergency Equipment
Gain hands-on experience using essential emergency equipment such as cervical collars, spinal boards, and bag-valve masks (BVMs).
